1979 monte carlo

A great and must read article: 1979 monte carlo for sale

Q: Modern day cars similar to a 1979 monte carlo?
I’m looking for a car similar to a 1979 monte carlo in appearance. Something along the lines of this http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/4671/4241/24177120182_large.jpg. The car is too expensive to maintain so I have to get something more mordern, but I want the look to be similar.

A: If the ‘79 MC isn’t a bucket of rust. Keep it! That car isn’t anything compared to the electronic expense of the newer car components.

Just go out and find something you may like and start pricing some of the items that is facing you on the 79 MC. plus add the PCM, and the other computer modules.

Q: Where to buy a 1979 monte carlo steel cowl induction hood?
does anyone know if they make steel cowl induction hoods for 1978-1980 monte carlos and where can i get one, either in 2 or 4 inch, no fiberglass or steel scoops, just looking for an after market steel cowl hood. bolt on only. thank you

A: Try Paddocks. I dont have number but it is in Knightstown IN.

Q: how would i go about putting a big engine and customizing a 1979 monte carlo?
i would like to put a big engine in it along with a new transmission and rear end and getting it all to fit

A: Get a measuring tape.

Measure the width of the engine compartment, both down low where the engine mounts are, and from fender-well to fender-well at the top.

If necessary stuff like fender wells can be bent/reworked, removed or replaced to provide width for a wider motor. Possibly also firewall needs to be moved back to allow room for big block.

The 1979 monte carlo was available with a 305 small-block. Earlier model 1970-1977ish monte carlo was available with 454 big block but your ‘79 model was downsized and won’t easily fit the big block.

Big Block vs. Small Block measurement differences:

Big Block
23.63″ length from center motor mount hole to front of motor 7.68″ height from center motor mount bolt to top of motor 22.96″ wide
Small Block
21.78″ length from center motor mount hole to front of motor 5.33″ height from center motor mount bolt to top of motor 19.68″ wide
The width and extra height are the problem.

Q: Whats the difference between a 1978 monte carlo and a 1979 monte carlo?

A: some trim, the grille, and the front spindles and rotors( 78 has smaller bearings)

Q: what transmission options came in the 1979 monte carlo?
what transmission options came in the 1979 monte carlo??????

A: They came factory with auto turbo 350 trans

Q: how much do u think a 1979 Monte Carlo would cost?
i would like to know how much one would cost, all it would have to do is run lol, and have a body ya know. something worth actually buying. help will be appreciated.

Q: in your opion, should these cars be saved from the crusher? 1978 Monte Carlo, 1979 Trans am, and a1965 Impala
i would like to know who thinks these cars are worth saving

the reason i ask is cause my uncle has a junkyard and he is going to scrap all of the cars there. I seen 3 cars there that i would hate to see go to the crusher. they are a 1979 trans am that is just the body, no engine trans or interior, but the body is in very good shape. there is a 1978 Monte carlo, it looks like it is fully intact just not running anymore. and there is a 1965 Impala sedan, i know that the 4 doors arn’t worth as much but this thing is in great shape for how old it is. there is no engine in it but the body only has a few dings and just a little surface rust. all of the crome trim is in great shape. i already have too many cars to work on but i feel that i am obligated to save these cars. i’m not trying to make an investment or anything, my only purpose is to save these from the crusher. i think i can purchase all of them for whatever they are worth as scrap. which is probably only $100 each.
these cars i’m asking about should be saved in my opinon . the way i look at it is that someone out there would really love these cars, they may not be my dream cars but they are probably somebodies. i feel that cars like these doesn’t deserve to be crushed because they are getting harder to find every year. if they were very rusted or wrecked then i would have no problem with them being crushed. but these are very restorable cars. think about 10 years ago there were probably many 69 camaros and firebirds that got crushed that now are worth a lot. i feel that these cars are worth saving and would like to ask who else thinks that this is a noble cause.

A: They would all be great restoration projects, but it would take a bunch of money. But if you say you already have too many to work on, you should probably let them go unless you can find someone that would take them. Try Hemmings Motor News. They have classifieds all over the country.

Q: What battery does my 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo use?
My single-owner car has the trailer towing package.

My car was stolen; it was recovered, but the Owners Manual was not.

My car is now “driveway litter.”

Where can I find a –free– Owners Manual to download at once? Where is a good place to buy one?

—–Thank you, Jim

A: Go to Walmart and there is a computer there to look up the correct battery for your car.

While you’re there, they may have a vehicle specific repair manual too.

Q: where can i find a 1979 monte carlo for sale?

A: Try ebay motors.

Q: did they ever make a 1979 monte carlo with the shifter on the bottom?

A: On the bottom of what?

Q: Will a 383 fit in a 1979 monte carlo?
the monte carlo has a 350 now but iwas looking for more power

A: 383 stroker is just a bored and stroked 350 block so yeah it will bolt right in just like any other small block chevy engine

Q: does anyone know where I should post my 1979 monte carlo with landaw top.?
I am old lady retired and do not need it, but I don’t want alot of people coming to my home. so it anyone has any suggestion’s please reply
